Trenton High School
This year’s recipient of the Gilchrist County Woman’s Club Susan J. Bryant Memorial Scholarship is Kenly Alvarez and graduates with a 4.1 GPA and over 130 community service hours in local schools helping younger children. In Kenly’s free time she enjoys singing, listening to music, and spending time with her family. She is currently part of her church worship group and has a part-time job. She has participated in band and Fellowship of Christian Athletes in grades 6-12. Her future plans are to attend Florida Gateway College and then transfer to Santa Fe College to enter into their Registered Nurse Program. Her goal is to become a pediatric nurse because she loves helping children.

Susan J. Bryant Scholarship Fund
Each May, the Club awards an Education Scholarship to a local female high school senior from a Gilchrist County High School—rotating between Bell and Trenton. Funds for the scholarship come from our Annual Barbeque Lunch.
The criteria for the scholarship aligns with the Gilchrist County Education Foundation guidelines. The female student must qualify for an Education Foundation Scholarship to apply for the scholarship since our scholarship filters through the Education Foundation.
A student receives one $1,000 scholarship through the Education Foundation. The scholarship is either through an entity such as the Woman’s Club or a scholarship stating it is from the Education Foundation. The receiving of one scholarship for $1,000 is an Educational Foundation rule so all students receive an equal amount of scholarship money.
The student must have a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA), and have at least 75 community service hours. Students must complete and submit a Gilchrist County Education Foundation application to their school guidance department which forwards it to the Foundation. The Woman’s Club Selection Committee reviews the list of students provided by the Education Committee. The committee also looks at the involvement of the student in school and community. Community service criteria are based on the fact the Woman’s Club is a community service organization.
In 2021, we renamed the scholarship in honor of Susan J. Bryant. Susan served as the Gilchrist County Supervisor of Elections until retirement, served as President of the Woman’s Club and was heavily involved in the establishment of the Gilchrist County Education Scholarship Foundation.
